What Matters

10 Commitments & What Matters

Mental Health Resources

This year 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental illness. Many people are not knowledgeable or confident to offer assistance. Physical first aid is accepted and widespread in our community, however most do not cover mental health problems. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches people the skills to help someone who they’re concerned about.https://mhfa.com.au/

Conversations on Mental Health Videos.

At The Baptist Association, we are committed to opening the discussion around mental health and have developed a series of videos called “Conversations on Mental Health.” They cover the topics of professional help, culture, leadership, faith and lived experience. These videos are designed to educate, equip, encourage and give hope to individuals, families, leaders and the community.

Please email Fiona at fgardner@nswactbaptists.org.au if you have any questions.

BYM Teaching Resources

As we listened to leaders of youth ministries from across our movement over the last couple of years it has become apparent that some video based teaching resources would be of benefit for youth ministries to put alongside what they do on the ground in person with their young people each year. So we have developed a short series with some of our BYM team that can be used in either large or small group youth ministry settings.

We hope to be able to develop more resources like this in the coming years and trust that they serve you, your team, and the young people in your youth ministry as they explore what who Jesus is, what He has done, and what it means to follow Him.

Creating Safe Spaces

Creating Safe Spaces is a training program established by the Baptist Churches of NSW & ACT.  It seeks to ensure safe ministry policy and practice to protect children and all vulnerable people from harm and abuse.  As we establish and maintain safe ministry in our church events and programs we will fulfil our biblical, ethical, denominational, risk management, insurance, and legal responsibilities.  Creating Safe Spaces includes a focus on child protection but seeks to protect all vulnerable people, including fulfilling our duty of care under Work Health and Safety legislation to provide a safe physical environment. The Baptist Association strongly recommends that all those working with children and young people or vulnerable adults, including SRE teachers, as well as those with oversight responsibilities such as worship leaders, elders, deacons and church council members complete Creating Safe Spaces training every 3 years.https://creatingsafespaces.org.au/
